Delhi: RWAs’ body seeks road infrastructure & robust public transport, starts online petition

United Residents Joint Action, a consortium of hundreds of RWAs in Delhi, in collaboration with Jhatkaa.org, an advocacy group, has launched an online petition called #VoteforTransport that focuses on the demand for a robust public transport and non-motorised transport infrastructure in the city.

The petition, signed by 6,500 people so far, focuses on MCD’s role in making roads conducive to walking and cycling for all age-groups and people with special needs.

At present, the road infrastructure discourages people from walking. In their feedback, people have stressed on consistent support from the state government for making the system robust.

Delhi MCD polls 2022: Will work to end parking problem on war footing, says BJP

Delhi BJP chief Adesh Gupta on Wednesday said his party will work on a war footing to eliminate the parking problem if elected to the MCD again. He claimed that BJP made over 100 modern parking lots in the capital during its third stint in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. “We have started construction of parking lots in Delhi in a planned manner. We will make more such parking lots across the city in our fourth term.”

Delhi MCD polls: AAP devises 4-tier strategy as it reaches out to masses

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has worked out a four-tier campaign strategy for the MCD polls, with chief minister and party convener Arvind Kejriwal at the top and the candidates at the grassroots level to ensure that the message of “Kejriwal ki Sarkar, Kejriwal ka Paarshad (councillor)” reaches everybody.

AAP’s MCD in-charge, Durgesh Pathak, said the strategy included road shows by Kejriwal, followed by nukkad sabhas (street meetings) of senior functionaries, the MLAs reaching out to various associations, and the candidates covering as many houses as possible. “The MLAs know associations better as both are in regular touch. So they are working with different bodies such as those of traders, workers and teachers,” he said.

BJP failed to perform primary duty of MCD, Delhi citizens would give 'befitting response': Manish Sisodia

Senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia on Wednesday said the people of Delhi would give a "befitting response" to the BJP, which had "failed" to perform its primary responsibility during its 15-year tenure in charge of the civic body. The BJP has been in power in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) -- trifurcated in 2012 into north, south and east corporations and then unified this year -- for three straight terms.

It is unfortunate that the BJP looted and threatened the citizens in the name of house tax in Delhi. We will waive off dues of private residential buildings within a month and ensure no house pays more than half the present property tax. The Delhi Congress will constitute a municipal valuation committee, which will re-categorise colonies under the MCD, and unit area rates will be fixed based on category of roads where the properties are located.

Delhi Congress on Wednesday said it will waive off dues of private residential buildings, if voted to power in the upcoming polls to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). The Delhi BJP is expected to come out with a manifesto for MCD elections with promises of delivery of "faceless" civic services, incentivising girl child education, and rebate to women in property tax, party leaders said on Wednesday. Multiple times in the past, the BJP has said the salaries would be provided to the sanitation workers on time, this has not happened even now. There are over 25,000 sanitation workers who receive their payment on a daily basis. If they happen to miss work for a day for any reason, they do not receive the money for that day. Their wages are basically in the hands of the contractor under whom they work. This is how bad the situation is in the MCD under the BJP.

BJP deceived Delhi sanitation workers: AAP

The Aam Aadmi Party alleged on Wednesday that there was a backlog in disbursement of salaries to sanitation workers by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. It accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of deceiving them during their 15-year tenure in the civic body.

Listing out the sanitation workers' problems. including lack of respect and danger to their lives, the AAP urged them to vote for it so that their demands can be looked into and they could lead a better life.

AAP legislator Durgesh Pathak said the BJP had control of the MCD for the past 15 years and if there was anyone who were cheated the most in this time span, then it was the sanitation workers.
