R’bore big cat released in Mukundra forest
Jaipur: Tiger T-110, which was successfully relocated from Ranthambore Tiger Reserve to Mukundra Hills Tiger Reserve (MHTR) after radio collaring. was released in the wild from the enclosure on Monday.
The nearly six-year-old tiger was kept in an enclosure for 18 days before releasing it in its new home. A senior official said, “After receiving a nod from the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), the big cat was released into the wild. Round-the-clock monitoring is being done by the team.”
Officials claim the tiger was shifted to MHTR after it was pushed to the periphery by other male tigers.
“Two other tigers had already entered T-110’s territory and it had also started straying out, so this tiger was selected for shifting to Seljar range of Mukundra. This is for the first time after two years that Mukundra will have a male tiger. A female tiger had already been shifted there before, so now the reserve will have a pair,” said a senior forest official.
The tigress that was shifted to Mukundra earlier this year was also radio-collared and now round-the-clock monitoring will be done for both along with regular patrolling.
Officials said if the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) allows, in future another tigress is likely to be shifted to MHTR. After the debacle in past, the recent relocation is expected to give fresh lease to the MHTR.
In February, NTCA had allowed relocation of two tigers from Ranthambore to Mukundra with certain conditions. In 2018, the tiger relocation plan was altered due to the pressure built by Vasundhara Raje government.
