Leopard dies in territorial fight, another in road hit

Chandrapur: Two leopards died in separate incidents in the district on Sunday. While an adult leopard was found dead in Kanhalgaon beat under Sindewahi range, another leopard died in a hit and run case on Chandrapur-Ballarpur road near Bhivkund nullah.
Sources said a three-year-old leopard was found dead in the farm of one Chandrashekhar Channe on Sunday afternoon. A team of foresters immediately rushed to the spot. Later post-mortem was carried out on the spot by livestock development officer Dr Vinod Surpam in presence of NTCA and PCCF representatives and forest officials. Autopsy findings and traces found on the spot confirmed that fight between two leopards over territory is the cause of the death.
In yet another incident, a leopard was knocked dead by an unidentified speeding vehicle on Chandrapur-Ballarpur road near Bhivkund nullah under Ballarpur range at around 9 pm on Sunday. The carcass was found along the road late in the night. Forest officials have registered offence against driver of the unidentified vehicle.
