A man allegedly tried to commit suicide by jumping off the sixth floor of Mantralaya, the headquarters of the Maharashtra government in south Mumbai on Thursday, but survived due to the safety net, police said. The safety net was installed specifically to foil such attempts after similar incidents in the past.
Bapu Mokashi (43) jumped from the sixth floor of the building around 3 p.m. Mokashi was rescued from the net by the police and taken to a hospital.
He had not received any serious injury, said the police official, adding that Marine Drive police are conducting a probe into the matter.
The man was seen lying on the net for a long time. In one of the videos, it can be heard that people are trying to ascertain what made him jump and take such an extreme step.
As per reports, the man claimed that his fiancé was raped, and he was upset over the inaction of the police in arresting the accused. "While Uddhav was the CM, a letter was written four times, but nothing was done to punish the accused," he reportedly said.
