HUBBALLI: Members of the Sikaligar community protested in front of Old Hubballi police station on Tuesday night alleging that some persons are forcing their community members to convert to Christianity. They submitted a memorandum to the police urging them to probe the matter and act against those involved in forcible conversion in their area.
Police sub inspector Shivanand Bannikoppa told TOI that the memorandum alleged that a person from the community was complaining that his wife was forcing him to convert and that some people were actively involved in conversion activities in their locality.
“Based on names given in the memorandum, we called those persons for an inquiry on Wednesday. We questioned seven to eight people and found nothing against them. We did not find any concrete proof or evidence regarding the alleged conversion in the area where the Sikaligar community people are living and we have not filed any case,” he said.
