Varanasi: The Banaras Hindu University has increased the amount of existing financial scheme -Student Financial Assistant for BPL card holders and financial assistant for free/subsidized meal to divyang/poor students.
According to the
BHU spokesperson, the existing amount of Rs 12,000 per annum under the Student Financial Assistance Scheme, given to every BPL card holder student as the loan money will be increased to Rs 25,000 per annum and the amount will be provided as a scholarship instead of loan through direct benefit transfer. The students (only UG/PG) may avail the scholarship only for the minimum residential period required for the degree. The scholarship will continue only if the student fulfils minimum prescribed attendance and exuding good academic performance.
Free meal facility will be extended to all students with disabilities (visually/orthopedically/hearing impaired) residing in the hostels of the university only if they take food in their respective messes. Their actual mess bill will be reimbursed under the Student Welfare Scheme. Such students of City Delegacy may also avail the free meal facility. In order to avail this facility, they must eat either at the mess of their respective faculty hostel or in the Annapurna Bhojanalaya.
A sum of Rs 5,000 per annum per student may be provided to all visually impaired students as financial assistance to purchase ‘teaching aids’ on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti every year. A sum of Rs 5,000 per student as one time grant for the purchase of tricycle will be provided to the physically challenged students for their entire tenure of education in the university. Similarly, a sum of Rs 5.000 per annum per student will be provided to all hearing impaired students as financial assistance for purchasing hearing aids on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti every year.
