PRAYAGRAJ: Residents of the Sangam city, who prefer to have fresh organic veggies on their platters, are all set to get them at their doorsteps.
The first market for organic products of the state is coming up in Mundera Mandi. Named 'Sangam Organic', it will work in both online and offline mode. From this market, vegetables, pulses, oilseeds, jowar, bajra, grains and fruits grown by 4,000 farmers in organic farming in 112 villages on the banks of the Ganga will get a big platform.
These farmers have got certificates of organic farming from the government. From this market, people will be able to make online and offline purchases through an App.
According to deputy director agriculture, Vinod Kumar Sharma, "Under the Namami Gange scheme, 4,000 farmers from 112 villages on the banks of the river Ganga were trained by the department of organic farming. Following the training, these farmers have now been certified as farmers practicing organic farming."
Sharma further said that the theme of these farming practices is 'Khet Se Rasoi Tak' (from farm to kitchen). "Efforts are being made that the fresh fruits, vegetables and cereals grown by these trained farmers should be delivered directly to the doorsteps of the consumers. These products would be available under the brand name 'Sangam Organic'.
The deputy director added that organic farming is being done on more than 3790 hectares of land in the district. "Clinical tests of these products will be done. On successful completion of the test, the farmers will be given the logo of Organic India. After this their products can be sold anywhere in the country," he said.
"To start with, we would be opening a counter at Mundera mandi (the wholesale market of veggies in Prayagraj) by the end of this month where people can purchase these organic products. At the same time, the department is in contact with some agencies which would develop an app through which the customers can order for the product and the same would be delivered at their doorstep," said Sharma.
The agriculture department is in contact with multi-city online vegetable selling portals like Big Basket, Jenny and many FPOs to pick up vegetables and fruits from the farms of Sangam city and deliver them to the customers' homes of different cities. MoU will be done for online ordering and home delivery of products from the FPO concerned, says Sharma.
