Ranchi: A tribal resource centre was inaugurated at Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS) here on Wednesday to provide a one-stop destination to students, researchers, and tourists to access information regarding Jharkhand, its culture and the tribes.
Named after Dr Kumar Suresh Singh, an academician and administrator, the centre was inaugurated by finance minister
Rameshwar Oraon in the presence of Rajya Sabha MP Mahua Maji, and wife of late Dr Singh, Bimleshwari Singh.
Bimleshwari and son Dhruv Singh have donated his lifetime’s worth of research materials to XISS for the betterment of the society.
“The students will be able to gather information about tribal culture, cuisine and festivals. Singh has shared his life, experiences, and the issues he encountered — all of which are essential for the development of the nation,” Oraon said.
Mahua Maji, a member of the Rajya Sabha, said, “To comprehend Jharkhand holistically, it is vital to understand Dr Singh’s words. His publications on indigenous people are significant for our nation.”
The centre contains approximately 3,500 books, over 400 manuscripts, and handwritten and typed notes on a variety of subjects, such as Birsa Munda, tribal movements in India, tribal society in India, among others. It is in the process of digitising the entire facility for global accessibility.
Thanking XISS, Dhruv said, “His writings will be as revered as he himself was.”
