Live chickens for votes: Civic poll candidate gives away truckloads
SHAMLI: In an bizarre "poll freebie", a former municipality chairman of Kandhla town in Shamli district arrived with two truckloads of live chickens for distribution at a residential area in a bid to "woo" voters as he is a contender in the forthcoming municipal polls, the date for which is yet to be announced. The video of the incident, which happened on Tuesday afternoon, went viral on social media.
"It was just a usual Tuesday afternoon and everyone was going about their activities when suddenly hundreds of people were seen rushing towards a truck laden with live chickens. It was a funny sight as the people tried to grab as many chickens as they could and hurried back home for a good dinner later in the evening," said a local resident.
The former municipality chairman, Mohd Islam, denied that he was trying to woo voters and said, "These people had voted for me and made me the chairman. This gesture is just a humble way to thank them."
