Tamil superstar Rajinikanth is impressed beyond words with the latest release 'Kantara'.

If reports are to be believed, the 'Robot' star gifted gold to actor-director Rishab Shetty on the success of his blockbuster.

Several media reports claimed that Rajinikanth called Shetty to his Chennai home to gift him a gold chain and gold locket for the phenomenal success of his film. It turns out Rajini also said that movies like 'Kantara' happen once in 50 years.

This appears to be another feather in the cap of the makers.

Last month, the superstar welcomed the 'Kantara' director and star and producer Karthik Gowda of Hombale Films at his Chennai residence.

The makers took to the official handle of Hombale Films to thank Rajini for his gesture. "Moments to treasure for life for the #HombaleFilms #Kantara team. With #noneother than the #Thalaiva himself. Thank you @rajinikanth sir for your precious time," read the post.

A few days before meeting Shetty, the 71-year-old had posted his review of 'Kantara' on Twitter.

Showering praises on the actor, the South superstar said that the 'masterpiece' gave him goosebumps. "'The unknown is more than the known' no one could have said this better in cinema than Hombale Films's 'Kantara'. You gave me goosebumps Rishab, hats off to you as a writer, director and actor. Congrats to the whole cast and crew of this masterpiece in Indian cinema," his tweet read.

Shetty also thanked Rajinikanth for his kind words.

Helmed by Shetty, 'Kantara' was released on September 30 in Kannada, and later was dubbed in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam on October 14. The movie gathered massive responses from the audience for its storyline and amazing visuals.

The Hindi version of the film has minted over Rs 76 crore in its fifth weekend since its release.

The Kannada period action thriller is set in the fictional village of Dakshina Kannada and follows a Kambala champion (played by Shetty) who comes to loggerheads with an upright Forest Range officer, Murali.

Produced by Vijay Kiragandur and Chaluve Gowda, under Hombale Films, the film features Shetty, Sapthami Gowda, and Kishore Kumar G in pivotal roles.
