VARANASI: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday said that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP-led double engine government is fulfilling the dreams of tribals by giving them rights over their parental land in the forest areas - which they had been waiting since amendment to the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act in 2006.
Yogi was addressing a function on the birth anniversary of tribal freedom fighter Birsa Munda in UP's Sonbhadra district on Tuesday after giving 'Vanadhikar Patta' (title of forest land) to 23,335 tribal families of 13 districts and also inaugurating and laying foundation of 233 projects worth Rs 575 crore at the event.
After amendment to the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act in 2006, many governments were formed in UP between 2006 and 2017 but the rights of tribals and forest dwellers on their forest land as per the provisions prescribed by the government of India and the Supreme Court could be given by the double engine government only,” said Yogi, mentioning that a long procedure was completed since 2017 to make it possible.
Describing the rich cultural heritage of Sonbhadra, Yogi said that it is the only district in India that has 13 tribes, including Tharu, Buksa, Gaur, Kharwar, Sahariya, Paraiya, Bega, Panika, Agaria, Patari, Cheru, and Bhuiya, residing here. Greeting tribal participants from 13 districts of state to celebrate the birth anniversary of Birsa Munda, Yogi said: “The central and state governments are working together with full commitment to ensure their rights. All those tribals, who are eligible for these rights will continue to get it under the Forest Rights Act, 2006 and housing schemes –PM Awas Yojana or CM Awas Yojana.”
Expressing gratitude to the PM for ensuring that the birth anniversary of Birsa Munda on November 15 is celebrated as ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas’, he paid tributes to Rani Durgavati and Birsa Munda for their sacrifices during the freedom struggle. He also highlighted how the BJP government brought changes in the life of Vantangiya tribals. If Banda’s medical college is named after Rani Durgavati, he said that Sonbhadra is also witnessing development on almost all fronts as a medical college is being constructed here.
