MYSURU: Ramesh Banoth, who took over as commissioner of police, Mysuru city, on Tuesday said his focus is on improving people-friendly police practices in the city.
“I’m new to the city of Mysuru and haven’t worked here earlier. I’ll first figure out the state of affairs in the city and will prioritise the work. Obviously improving police-public relations would be the first priority,” the 2009-batch IPS officer told TOI after assuming charge from Chandragupta, who is now posted as DIGP, western range.
Ramesh commenced his career as assistant superintendent of police, Chintamani subdivision, Chikkaballapur, in 2009. A BTech graduate, Ramesh had worked as DCP (law and order) in Hubballi for a brief period and then as Superintendent of Police, in Bengaluru Rural, Haveri, and Ramanagara districts. He also worked with Bengaluru City Police as DCP (West). He was SP (CID), Bengaluru most recently.
Sources said Ramesh is due a promotion on December 31 and would be elevated to the rank of DIG from January 1, 2023. Therefore, the government has posted him as city police chief.
Chandragupta, a 2006-batch IPS officer, had the long stint as commissioner of police, occupying the post for two years and nine months. Sharing his work experience, Chandragupta said he took charge before the Covid-19 restrictions and faced a lot of challenges during the pandemic.
MYSURU:“It was a different kind of work experience and we also lost a few police officers to Covid. Challenges during his period were addressed successfully and we also solved major crimes,” he said. The IPS officer thanked the people of Mysuru for their cooperation all through his tenure.
