RANCHI: Chief minister Hemant Soren has knocked on the doors of the high court, urging it to clamp a stay on the recommendation of the Election Commission, which is still not known to the government. A writ petition has been filed by Soren on Monday.
Soren is aggrieved by the recommendation of the EC in the case of holding an office-of-profit while in the post of chief minister. He earlier held a mining lease in his name in the Angarah block of Ranchi district for stone mining while holding the office of the chief minister, which he later surrendered. A complaint in this regard was filed with the governor by BJP, after which the governor had sought the opinion of the EC.
Soren's counsel and the junior counsel to the office of the advocate general, Piyush Chitresh, said his client seeks a stay on the proposed actions of the governor, who has also been intimated by the EC.
