Film 'Uunchai' by director Sooraj Barjatya, which was released last week on Friday, has been making quite the buzz among movie lovers on social media.
The film, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Anupam Kher, Boman Irani, Danny Denzongpa, Parineeti Chopra, Neena Gupta and Sarika, opened to rave reviews from critics.
The film tracks the journey of three aged friends who set out on a trek to the Everest Base Camp to fulfil their fourth friend's last wish.
A simple trek to the Everest Base Camp turns out to be a personal, emotional and spiritual experience as the group battle their physical limitations and discover freedom.
In a statement on Monday, the makers said the film raised Rs 1.81 crore on its opening day on Friday, followed by Rs 3.64 crore on Saturday.
'Uunchai' is also special because it marks the return of film-maker Barjatya since 2015 film 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo'.
While the film is already running in theatres currently, it will also appear on small screen soon as ZEE5 has bagged the streaming rights of 'Uunchai'.
However, the OTT release data is yet to be announced by the film's makers.
The film also marks Kher and Barjatya's fourth collaboration after 'Hum Aapke Hain Koun....!', 'Vivaah' and 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo'. The actor said it was an instant yes when the director narrated the script of 'Uunchai'.
The film, which finished its principal shooting earlier this year, was extensively shot in Nepal, Delhi, Mumbai, Agra, Lucknow and Kanpur.
"Shooting of the film has been tough in terms of physicality . But Sooraj and his unit are so wonderful that you want to give your best," Kher had said in one of his recent interviews.
