Lalpur veg market to be opened on foundation day
Ranchi: The Lalpur vegetable market will be inaugurated on the occasion of the state’s foundation day here on Tuesday. The vegetable market will be inaugurated by chief minister Hemant Soren and only those whose names appear on the list of footpath merchants will be permitted to hold the market on the platform.
Talking to TOI, Manikant Sinha, RMC city manager and in charge for the project, said, “The market is designed to decrease traffic congestion and assist sellers in running their market on a platform rather than the roadside. We have identified 12 other locations for vegetable markets and following a meeting with the city commissioner and municipal bodies, we will go forward with the implementation.”
He added, “The platform will be allotted to vendors based on a survey done in 2016. It will be allotted to those who have registered themselves and their documents have been verified by the RMC. For suppliers that were unable to submit an application, the RMC has extended the deadline to do so from November 10 to 14.”
Around 101 shops will be there for the meat and fish sellers on the ground floor and around 250 shops will be provided to the vegetable and fruit sellers on the first floor. The vendors are ecstatic that they would get a permanent place for their business. Dayal Mahto, a vegetable seller at Lalpur, said, “During winters, it is tough to run the market on the roadside. It will be good for us to get a location for the market. We have been waiting so long for it."
