Plus II student found hanging in hostel room

Berhampur: A first-year Plus II student at a private college near Ankuli was found hanging in her hostel room on Sunday evening. Though the cause of her death is not known yet, the victim’s mother has lodged a murder complaint at Baidyanath Pur police station.
“The cause of her death will be known once we get the autopsy report,” Berhampur SP Saraban Vivek M said. The deceased was identified as Diptilata Das(16), of Lochapada in Ganjam district.
Police said that the victim was alone in the hostel when the incident took place. The other students had gone out to attend a prayer session. Upon their return, they found Dipika hanging. The students, along with college staff, immediately rushed her to MKCG Medical College where the doctors declared her dead.
Her mother Jyostna Rani Das claimed that she wasn’t immediately informed of her daughter’s death. “Moreover, some senior students made nasty comments at her a few days ago but the college authorities did not take any action ,” she said.
Refusing to comment on her allegation, a college staff member preferring anonymity said, “Since police are still investigating the case, I do not wish to say anything on the matter.”
