RAJKOT: "She is making her debut and I am confident she will progress in this field," said India's swashbuckling all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja after his wife Rivaba filed nomination for the Jamnagar North constituency on Monday.
Accompanied by Jadeja, former chief minister Vijay Rupani and Jamnagar MP Poonam Madam, Rivaba filed the papers amid a massive show of strength by BJP workers at the collector's office.
Talking to media persons, Jadeja said, "I thank PM Narendra Modi for reposing faith in Rivaba. Her vision is to help people and solve their problems."
"She is making her debut and I am confident she will progress in this field," the cricketer dressed in a saffron kurta said.
When asked whether some Team India players would join the campaign, he said "I will try and ask some of them to join."
Jadeja's sister Naynaba is an active Congress member and campaigning for the party across the Jamnagar district.
Before Rivaba's name was declared, Naynaba had issued a statement saying BJP will lose the Jamnagar (north) seat if the party chooses a political rookie.
Dharmendrasinh Jadeja, popularly known as Hakubha, who was one of the claimants for this seat, was also present at the office.
Hakubha had won this seat on Congress ticket in 2012 and later joined BJP. He won in the 2017 by-poll.
