BELAGAVI: Thousands of followers of KPCC working president Satish Jarkiholi, including writers and farmers, put up a show of strength in Belagavi on Monday by condemning the political conspiracy being hatched against the leader for speaking on the origins of the word Hindu.
Holding placards that supported Satish Jarkiholi, his followers went on a march from the CPEd Ground here, which was converted into a massive convention on the premises of Channamma Circle. Before that, the supporters marched to the DC’s office and submitted a memorandum.
Holding blue, saffron, yellow and red flags in their hands, the activists chanted slogans in favour of Satish. They shouted slogans against Vijayapura MLA Basanagouda Patil (Yatnal), Muzrai minister Shashikala Jolle, Belagavi (South) MLA Abhay Patil, BJP district (rural) president Sanjay Patil and burnt their effigies. Various Dalit, farmers’ and Kannada organisations participated in the march.
Several leaders from the weavers’ community participated. The supporters said the BJP and right-wing outfits were trying to defame Satish Jarkiholi.
In the past few days, the BJP organised several protests against Satish Jarkiholi across the district and other parts of the state. Monday’s show of strength was a counter by Jarkiholi’s followers.
Another reason behind the massive march was to target Basanagouda Patil (Yatnal), who outrightly criticised Satish Jarkiholi at the Panchamsali convention in Gokak on Sunday.
Workers of Manav Bandhutva Vedike, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, Bharatiya Krishik Samaj, Jai Jawan Jai Kisan Sangathan, Dalit Sabgharsh Samiti (Ambedkar Vaad), All Karnataka Valmiki Nayak Mahasabha, Karnataka Valmiki Yuva Vedike, Dr BR Ambedkar Shakti Sangh, Shri Chennabasav Foundation of Mahantesh Nagar in Belagavi and various other Dalit organisations participated in the protest.
