Varanasi: With restructuring of the Police Commissionerate of Varanasi following the merger of rural district police, now 30 police stations will be operating under nine circles divided in three zones.
With formal reorganisation of three police commissionerates of the state including Varanasi, the commissioner of police A Satish Ganesh announced the restructured set-up of policing in the district, on Monday.
As per the new structure, the district, which was earlier divided in Kashi and Varuna zones under the CP and rural district police under SP rural district, has now three zones- Kashi, Varuna and Gomati.
Kashi zone will have 13 police stations of the city’s sis-Varuna area under the jurisdiction of four circles. Kotwali, Ramnagar, Adampur and women police station will be under Kotwali circle; Bhelupur, Lanka and Chitaipur are under Bhelupur circle and Dashaswamedh, Chowk and Luxa police stations are under Dashaswamedh circle while Chetganj, Jaitpura and Sigra are under Chetganj circle.
Varuna zone will have 10 police stations in three circles. Cantt, Shivpur and Lalpur Pandeypur police stations are under Cantonment circle; Sarnath, Chaubeypur, Cholapur and tourist police stations are under Sarnath circle while Rohania, Manduadih and Lohta police stations operate under Rohania circle.
New zone, named Gomati, will have seven police stations under two circles. Badagaon, Phoolpur, Sindhora police station will operate under Pindra circle and Rajatalab, Mirzamurad, Kapsethi and Jansa police stations are under Rajatalab circle. Woman police outpost and counselling centre, designated as a police station through a government order, will operate under Pindra circle.
