Panaji: Overcast conditions prevailed over most parts of the state on Sunday and some areas also received light rainfall. This was a result of a well-marked low pressure area, which persisted over southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas, and crossed over land into the Arabian Sea.
India meteorological department (IMD), Delhi, had forecast that the system, which also extended over the areas in northeast of Sri Lanka off Tamil Nadu coast, would move through the southern state, Puducherry and Kerala on Sunday.
“The movement of the system into south east Arabian Sea off the coast of Kerala as a low pressure area on Sunday will bring moisture over Goa and south konakn through easterly-south easterly winds, which may result in light rainfall or light thundershowers,” Rahul M, scientist, IMD, Panaji said.
The weather has been pleasant in recent weeks, as mercury has been hovering around normal range during the past few days. The minimum temperature had fallen slightly below normal for a few days, but cloudy conditions have seen a gradual rise by a degree or two. On Sunday, IMD, Panaji recorded a minimum temperature of 22.2 degrees Celsius, just 0.3 degrees below normal.
As per the IMD forecast, the intensity of rain activity may increase slightly on November 14, as a few places may witness light rain or thunder showers. It may be restricted to isolated places while November 16 is likely to be a dry day. The minimum temperature will fall by a couple of degrees in the next 58 hours or so.
