SURAT: More than 100 people suffered food poisoning after they consumed food at a community gathering in Chanchvel village of Vagra taluka in Bharuch district on Sunday evening.
"Around 1,500 people from the village had gathered for the community gathering," Bharuch superintendent of police Leena Patil told TOI.
Primary observation by doctors suggests that the people complained of vomiting and headache after eating halwa (sweet). Condition of all affected is stable, she added. Patil was present in the affected village to supervise the situation.
Bharuch district collector Tushar Sumera said that all the affected persons were under treatment at different hospitals.
"The people who suffered food poisoning have been admitted to the community health centres (CHCs) in Vagra and Amod and in the Bharuch Civil Hospital. We have ordered an inquiry into the incident," Sumera told TOI.
