Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde announces extension of Eastern Freeway till end of GB road

THANE: The Eastern Freeway will now be extended till the end of Ghodbunder road at Fountain Hotel, chief minister Ekanth Shinde announced Sunday. The extension will ensure speedy and hassle-free movement of vehicles from South Mumbai and eastern suburbs moving to and from Gujarat and extended western suburbs of Virar and Vasai, without clogging Thane streets.
In addition, freight vehicles will also not overlap with the city traffic, easing movement for them. Shinde was speaking at a public function in the city where he spoke of the freeway extension that starts near P D Mello road in S Mumbai and ends at Chembur. It may be recalled that a proposal to extend the elevated road is already scheduled till Anand Nagar in Thane and subsequently till Saket near Majiwada.
