Mumbai on Monday added 15 new cases of Covid-19, taking the overall count to 11,54,675 while no fresh death linked to the infection was reported in the metropolis.
Mumbai: Man held for extorting Rs 5 lakh from woman collegian
A man was arrested in Oshiwara in Mumbai on Monday for allegedly extorting Rs 5 lakh from a collegian after blackmailing her with an objectionable video clip, a police official said. The victim is 24 years old and hails from a well-to-do family, while the accused allegedly has links to the underworld, a official of Mumbai Crime Branch's Anti Extortion Cell (AEC) said. (PTI)
Speaking to the reporters here, Pawar said, "I insist that the way this case (against Awhad) has been registered in the wrong manner, it should be withdrawn."
The complainant alleged that the NCP leader had pushed her while making way for himself during the dispersal of a crowd after an event of the chief minister in Mumbra on Sunday evening, as per the First Information Report (FIR).
The police in Thane district have registered a case against Awhad under section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Indian Penal Code following a complaint by a woman.

In light of NCP leader Jitendra Awhad's claim that "fake" cases were being registered against him, senior party leader Ajit Pawar on Monday said the case against party MLA had been registered in a wrong manner and it needs to be withdrawn.

A fire broke out in a slum colony in Mumbai on Monday morning, a civic official said. There was no report of any casualties, he said.The blaze erupted around 11.30 am in the slum located on K K Marg in Byculla area, the official said. The fire was confined to six-seven hutments and there was dense smoke in the area because of the blaze, he said.

NCP MLA and former Maharashtra minister Jitendra Awhad on Monday said he has decided to resign as member of the Legislative Assembly over "fake" cases registered against him by police. The Mumbra police in neighbouring Thane district registered a case after midnight on Monday against Awhad under Indian Penal Code Section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) following a complaint by a woman.
