Con man cheats woman of 8L

Coimbatore: An unidentified man duped a woman into transferring 8.56 lakh to him by promising a job to her husband.
Anitha, 40, from Indira Garden Road at Varadharajapuram, transferred the amount to a few bank accounts over a period and later realised that she was cheated. She lodged a complaint with the city cybercrime police on Saturday.
“Anitha had registered details of her husband Suresh on a website to find a job for him. On May 7, 2022, she received a phone call from a man who introduced himself as Sanjay. He told her that her husband was selected for a job in a private firm and asked her to pay the registration amount. He claimed that the amount would be returned. Accordingly, Anitha transferred 8.56 lakh to some bank accounts in several installments till June 30. But after that she was unable to contact the man,” Anitha said in her complaint.
Police registered a case against under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 66D of the Information Technology Act.
