BND College students visit National Sugar Institute
Kanpur: Students of M.Sc and B.Sc. courses from BND College, Kanpur visited National Sugar Institute,Kanpur to seek first hand information about sugar and ethanol production and also to know more about career prospects in sugar and allied industry. The students visited the Experimental Sugar Factory, Ethanol unit, Brewery and other facilities at the institute wherein the institute faculty briefed them about the process and machinery.
They also visited various laboratories of the institute and got knowledge about techniques for process automation, production of specialty sugars and method of consumer packing of sugar and about production of various value added products from the by-products and waste of the sugar industry.
Addressing the students, Narendra Mohan, Director, National Sugar Institute highlighted the job potential in sugar and allied industry. The sugar industry is in the era of diversification wherein greater focus is on production of green energy through production of power, ethanol and compressed bio-gas. With large number of ethanol units being set up and sugar industry opting for change of process technique, it has opened doors for investment and newer jobs, he said.
He also briefed the faculty and students of BND College on myth and realities associated with sugar consumption. We have to see our sedentary life style, imbalanced diet, calorie intake and calorie burnt rather than blaming sugar alone, he said further.
