Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and his five-member team were reportedly stopped at the General Aviation (GA) Terminal of Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (Mumbai) on Saturday. According to sources, they were interrogated by the Air Intelligence Unit of the Customs Department after some dutiable items were discovered in their belongings. These consisted of an Apple iWatch worth Rs 75,000 and six other expensive watches. The total value of the dutiable items was Rs 17.86 lakhs approximately.

SRK’s bodyguard Ravi Shankar Singh paid the customs duty that amounted to Rs 6.8 lakh which is 3.8 per cent of the value of the dutiable items. A senior customs official later clarified (to the media) that the amount paid was a duty and not a penalty. The ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ star left along with his team members after that.

The officer explained that due to the lack of red and green channels at the private terminal of the Mumbai Airport, there is no option available for declaring dutiable goods. So it was difficult to know if the star was trying to evade duty on purpose. So no penalty was imposed by the customs department.

The team was returning from Sharjah, UAE (United Arab Emirates) where the ‘Chakde India’ actor was honoured with the Global Icon of Cinema & Cultural Narrative Award’ for his contribution to the film industry at the 41st edition of the Sharjah International Book Fair, on Friday. SIBF dropped a video of Khan arriving at the event and addressing the crowd there on Twitter. The caption of the post read, "He spoke about the fact that the world, and events such as the SIBF, are the cornerstones on which bridges that connect the cultures of the world will be built.”
On the work front, Khan is all set to return to the big screen after a long hiatus of four years. He will be seen in the action thriller ‘Pathaan’ opposite Deepika Padukone. The movie will hit the theatres in January 2023. SRK will also be seen in another action thriller ‘Jawan’. The movie will be helmed by Atlee. He will also star in ‘Dunki’ Raj Kumar Hirani’s much anticipated social comedy-drama, opposite Tapsee Pannu.
