Jaipur: Upbeat over the raise in Other Backward Class (OBC) quota from 14% to 27% in
Jharkhand, the OBC Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti (OASS) on Saturday asked the Rajasthan government to hike their reservation in jobs and educational institutes from 21% to 27%.
The samiti has asked the state to conduct a caste-based census for reshaping the reservation scheme.
Rajasthan Jat Mahasabha chief Raja Ram Meel lauded Jharkhand for its initiative and said it had set a predicament for the other states to follow or face loss in the political arena.
“The OBC youths have been facing discrimination for many years. It is time that the Ashok Gehlot’s government raise the bar to 27%. Thereafter, they should conduct a caste-based census and award us reservation on the basis of our population percentage,” Meel said.
The samiti has also intensified their campaign on social media demanding OBC quota equivalent to the Union government, which is 27%. “Rajasthan should set an example by passing the revised reservation scheme in the state so that its benefit reach deserving youths,” OASS member Vidhyadhar Choudhary said.
Not only the samiti members, other communities have also started demanding quota as per their population share. Most Backward Communities (MBCs) enjoying 5% reservation has started demanding 9% and claimed their population was not considered when reservation was granted. Gujjar leader Himmat Singh Gujjar said the government should resolve the matter once and for all by holding a caste-based census and award reservation as per population share.
