LUDHIANA: A few unidentified persons have been booked for defaming a local Congress leader by morphing his pictures and uploading them on social media. A case was registered on following a complaint by Gursimran Singh Mand of Sarabha Nagar Extension. Mand is national joint coordinator of All India Congress Committee (Kisan union) and a member of the International Anti Khalistan Terrorist Front.
Mand alleged that he speaks against Khalistan and Khalistani leaders, because of which he has been receiving death threats and has been accorded police protection. On Friday, he claimed that a few alleged extremists uploaded his morphed pictures on social media accounts. He said that his morphed picture carrying a Pakistani flag was uploaded on a profile on Facebook. He also alleged that another Facebook profile also uploaded morphed pictures of him and his aides carrying Khalistani flags.
Inspector Gurpreet Singh, SHO at Sadar police station said that an FIR had been lodged under sections 500 (Punishment for defamation), 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506 (Criminal breach of trust) of the IPC. Further investigations are on to identify the persons who operate the Facebook accounts.
After the killing of
Shiv Sena leader Sudhir Suri in Amritsar, Mand and another Ludhiana-based Hindu leader Amit Arora have been receiving death threats. On Friday, Mand received a death threat through e-mail.
