Jamshedpur: A 35-year-old person was assaulted and stoned to death while his friend received injuries during an assault by two unidentified bike-borne assailants near Karandih burial ground under the Pursudih police station limits on Saturday.
Bablu Patro (35) and Mangal Munda (33), both residents of Naya Basti in Bagbera, were beaten up when Bablu tried to stop the assailants from urinating in the field located near Karandih burial ground, Mangal said in his statement to the police.
Bablu and Mangal had come for the burial rites of their friend, Prafull Patro.
The assaulters not only kicked and punched Bablu, but also hit him with stones, Mangal said, adding that they punched and pelted stones at him when he intervened.
Pursudih police station in-charge R K Verma said they will conduct a thorough probe to ascertain whether there was any other cause behind the incident. “We have got the video footage of the attackers and the bike number has been traced. We will arrest the culprits soon,” he said.
The body of the deceased has been taken to the MGM medical hospital for autopsy, while the injured received treatment at the same hospital.
