One conviction for every three acquittals under POCSO

November 14 will mark 10 years since the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences, or POCSO, Act came into force. In a reflection perhaps of the larger crisis of delay affecting the justice system, cases registered under the Act have seen a high percentage of pendency even as the share of acquittals far outstrips the conviction rate, reveal findings shared with TOI by the Delhi-based think tank Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy ahead of the launch of its ‘A Decade of POCSO’ report.
