PATNA: Bihar CM
Nitish Kumar on Saturday condemned the derogatory remarks made by a West Bengal minister on Droupadi Murmu’s looks and said no one has the right to make such “wrong” comments on the President of India.
Responding to a media query, Nitish said such comments were very unfortunate and highly condemnable.
“It is wrong. How can anyone make such comments on the President of India? It is unfortunate and highly condemnable,” he said.
West Bengal’s minister for correctional homes Akhil Giri had on Thursday said, “We don't judge anyone by their appearance, we respect the office of the President. But how does our President look?”
After his remarks drew widespread criticism, the minister apologised for the objectionable remark.
Nitish was responding to a media query after unveiling a re-established life-size statue of the country’s first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru at the newly constructed Nehru Park in Punaichak area near the state secretariat here.
Nitish paid floral tributes to Nehru after unveiling the statue.
The life-size statue of Nehru was earlier established at the railway station roundabout.
But after the construction of a flyover in front of the railway station, the statue came under the shadow of the flyover.
Subsequently, the state government decided to shift the statue and re-establish it at the newly constructed Nehru Park.
