2 penalised for urinating on newly beautified walls in Thane
THANE: Two Thane residents were penalised after they were spotted urinating on newly beautified walls in the chief minister’s constituency of Wagle estate during the municipal commissioner’s visit, officials informed on Thursday.
The incident occurred during the ward visit of civic chief Abhijit Bangar on Wednesday to oversee the development works in Wagle estate ward.
“The commissioner was overseeing the works being conducted in the wards and was infuriated when he noticed two men -- an auto driver and other a local resident -- urinating in the open at different spots. He was angry as the men were not just relieving themselves in the open but were also dirtying the newly decorated walls. Immediately, he directed his team to approach the men and penalise them for their acts,” said a civic official.
It may be recalled Bangar has been working for a cleaner and beautified Thane city by pushing his staff to ensure the landscape looks spic and span. The corporation has received Rs 100 crore makeover plan funds from the state and is working overtime to ensure the city looks beautified in the coming months.
Bangar said that it was unfortunate that the corporation had to penalise residents and urged citizens to join hands with them to make the city cleaner and eradicate instances of dumping trash on roads, open defecation among others.
