Gang of 10 attacks labourer; case filed
Mangaluru: A daily wage worker was assaulted by a group of 10 people at Kodimbadi in Puttur taluk on Wednesday. Police said Suresha K, a resident of Hirebandadi village in Puttur taluk, was assaulted. Suresha was working in the house of Mohana at Kodimbadi for the past two years. Suresha was staying in Mohana’s house and the accused were not happy about it, puttur police said.
On Wednesday evening, accused Shekhara Poojari, Majoj, Umesh, Pramod, Ashok, Suresha, Umesha, Rathnakara, Krishnappa and Pradeep stopped the complainant and questioned him for staying in Mohana’s house. He was taken to an old house and Shekara Poojari assaulted him with a log.
The accused also threatened to kill Suresha if he filed a police complaint. Later, Mohana admitted him to Wenlock Hospital in Mangaluru.
Student drowned
A Class 10 student drowned while swimming in Nethravathi river near Thumbe dam in Bantwal taluk on Friday. The deceased is Salman Faris, 16, son of Zunaid, a resident of Parliya village in Bantwal. The incident happened when Faris, a student of Best English-Medium High School had gone to swim in the river with friends after afternoon namaz.
Bantwal Rural police reached the spot immediately and recovered the body.
Gold seized at airport
Customs sleuths at Mangaluru International Airport recently intercepted four passengers arriving from Dubai and seized 3.8kg of 24-carat gold valued at Rs 2.1 crore. Customs officials said that gold strips coated in Rhodium were concealed in their check-in trolley bags. Gold was also found in one of the unclaimed trolley bags. Investigation is on.
