Himachal Pradesh Election 2022: For the Congress, which has been on a downhill electorally since the last two election cycles, coming back to power in Himachal Pradesh is a matter of survival.
Himachal Pradesh Election 2022: A total of 1,21,409 voters are above the age of 80.
Will Himachal Pradesh give one more term to the BJP or to go by the four-decade tradition of voting out the ruling government and bring the opposition Congress or AAP to power in the hill state?
This will be decided today by the more than 55 lakh voters who will decide the fate of 412 candidates, including Chief Minister Jairam Thakur, former CM Virbhadhra Singh's son Vikramaditya Singh, in the elections in 68 constituencies across the state.
For the ruling BJP - which is hoping to retain power on the back of its development agenda - Prime Minister Narendra Modi has led the campaign from the front, wrapping up his campaign with a personal appeal to voters of the state, where he said every vote cast for the BJP symbol "lotus" will enhance his strength.The election is a matter for survival for the Congress, which has been on a downhill electorally since the last two election cycles.

Himachal Pradesh Election 2022: Lahaul-Spiti district has 92 polling stations, the lowest
Situated at 15,256 feet, the polling station in Tashigang in Lahaul-Spiti is the world's highest polling and will cater to 52 voters. It has been made Model Polling station to make voting easy for senior citizens and disabled voters. Lahaul-Spiti district has 92 polling stations, the lowest in the state.
Chamba, a remote district of the state, has the maximum number of 1,459 voters. The 26-Chask Bhatori polling station of Bharmour AC is the remotest station in this district, where the polling party has to walk a distance of 14 km to reach.

Elections in Himachal Pradesh: Highest booth is in Tashigang, at a height of 15,256 feet
The Election Commission has set up 7,884 polling stations, including three auxiliary voting stations in far flung areas. Of these, 789 are vulnerable booths and 397 critical ones.
The highest booth is in Tashigang, Kaza in Spiti area of Lahaul Spiti district at a height of 15,256 feet. It will cater to 52 voters.

Elections in Himachal Pradesh: Chief Minister Jairam Thakur casts vote in Seraj
Chief Minister Jairam Thakur was among the early voters who exercised their franchise. "We are confident of a grand win. Feedback is great. Most importantly, people are casting their votes peacefully," he was qupted as saying by news agency ANI. Himachal Pradesh Elections 2022: Amit Shah appeals voters to elect strong government
Union Home Minister Amit Shah appealed to voters especially mothers, sisters and youth to vote in maximum numbers. Taking to Twitter, Mr Shah said, "Only a strong and corruption-free government can fulfill the aspirations of the people of Devbhoomi by keeping Himachal Pradesh at the forefront of development".
"I appeal to all the voters of Himachal, especially mothers, sisters and youth, to vote in maximum numbers and elect a strong government for the golden tomorrow of the state," Mr Shah said in a tweet in Hindi.

Pratibha Singh, Himachal Pradesh Congress chief, said that she was confident that the Congress will come back to power in the state. "All people of Himachal Pradesh are very excited. Everyone will cast their vote today and cooperate to form a new government in the state," she said.
"I don't think there is anything like that. As far as voters are concerned, majority of them see who has worked & who has to be brought forward," Pratibha Singh told ANI.

Himachal Pradesh Elections 2022: "Hope people give one more chance," says Himachal Chief Minister Chief Minister Jairam Thakur told NDTV the BJP hopes to break the cycle of the same government not coming to power a second time in a row. There are only 24 women candidates in the fray this time, against 19 in 2017 and 34 in the 2012 assembly polls.
