NEW DELHI: Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, former cricketer and Rajya Sabha member Harbhajan Singh and Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann will be Aam Aadmi Party’s star campaigners for the Delhi municipal elections.
The list of 30 star campaigners also includes former cabinet minister Rajendra Pal Gautam, who had to resign in October after getting embroiled in a controversy over allegedly hurting religious sentiments.
The list also includes Rajya Sabha MPs Sanjay Singh, Raghav Chaddha, Sushil Gupta and ND Gupta, and other ministers from Punjab. City MLAs Durgesh Pathak, Vishesh Ravi, Atishi and Saurabh Bharadwaj, and Delhi ministers Kailash Gahlot, Gopal Rai, Imran Hussain and newly inducted Raaj Kumar Anand are part of the list.
On the inclusion of Gautam, Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor alleged, “By including former Delhi minister Rajendra Pal Gautam in AAP’s election campaign committee, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has shown that he has no respect for Hindu sentiments. Gautam had hurt the sentiments of Hindus by speaking against the deities, raising a huge outcry after which the chief minister dropped him.”
AAP, which has also released its first list of candidates, has made garbage its main campaign plank in this battle against BJP that had dominated MCD for 15 years. The party has already started its “Kude Par Campaign”, in which its workers are holding small public meetings targeting booth-wise coverage to drum up support for the candidates.
