Ludhiana: A senior
BJP leader had to fire multiple gunshots after “miscreants” allegedly entered his factory at Bhukari Kalan village in Ludhiana late on Thursday night. Police have started a probe into the matter following a complaint from Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal, national secretary of BJP’s Kissan Morcha.
Grewal said he went to his factory (Grewal Alloys Furnace Unit) after coming to know about the presence of some miscreants at the unit, who had possibly entered between 11.30pm and 11.45pm on Thursday. He fired three gunshots in the air, he claimed.
The BJP leader said after hearing the gunshots, the miscreats panicked and ran away leaving their motorcycle at the spot. He said later they informed police, who took the motorcycle in their custody.
Grewal said only one miscreant out of three had covered his face. He said as it was dark, they don’t know whether the miscreants were carrying a weapon or not.
He said the CCTV cameras were not working at the factory, but they do have cameras on petrol pumps. He said that if the motorcycle is not a stolen one, the miscreants could be identified with its help.
The BJP leader said he doesn’t have any idea what motive the miscreants had. He said they take rounds of the factory as the unit functions round the clock (both during day and night) and his house is nearby.
Inspector Bikramjit Singh, SHO, Jamalpur police station, said a case has not been registered yet as investigation is still under way. He said as per the information, the complainant had fired one or two gunshots with his licensed weapon after unidentified persons had come apparently with an intention of theft.
The SHO said they are checking details of the motorcycle.
