Thane: A former
Shiv Sena corporator and her activist husband along with their followers who had apparently switched loyalties to the Eknath Shinde faction following his rebellion returned to the core party Friday morning, MP Rajan Vichare informed. The neta claimed she took the decision to return following a review with voters from her ward.
Former corporator Ragini Bairesetty who represented ward number 5 through the Sena in the previous board in the Thane House was inducted back into the party by Uddhav Thackeray at Matoshree Friday morning. Barishetti is the third corporator to return to the Thackeray fold after the rebellion by Shinde, late June.
"We had not left the Sena but had only gone with several other corporators to extend our support to Shinde after he became the chief minister. But it was projected as if we had left the Sena. In the meantime, we interacted with our supporters and nearly 80 per cent of them said we should stay back with the Thackeray led Sena. We conveyed our decision to the Naresh Mhaske who is in charge of Thane before we went to Matoshree,” echoed the couple.
Kedar Dighe, Thane district president of the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray faction) said there could be more inductions in the coming days as several former corporators who were with the Shinde camp are in touch with them and could return ahead of the coming municipal level polls.
A senior leader from Thane said there are many leaders and corporators who had no option but to join the Shinde camp in the initial days and are now wary of their respective political future following which they are mulling to return to the Sena fold.
