Guwahati: The dengue situation in Assam remained grim as two more patients died in the state in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to six.
The National Health Mission Assam stated that 873 dengue positive cases have been recorded in the state since November 1, of which 84 cases were reported on Thursday. In the worst-hit Karbi Anglong district alone 65 cases were recorded since Wednesday.
Manoj Choudhury, executive director, NHM Assam, told TOI, “At present, Karbi Anglong district has reported 25 dengue cases and the patients are being treated at the Diphu Medical College Hospital (DMCH). One more patient has succumbed to the virus, taking the toll to four in the hill district.”
Similarly, Kamrup Metro district recorded another nine positive cases. A day earlier, Kamrup Metro recorded 12 dengue positive cases.
On the other hand, seven dengue positive cases were reported from Upper Assam in Tinsukia district, while, Cachar, Barpeta, Bongaigaon and Kamrup districts each reported one case till Thursday.
Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH), superintendent, Abhijit Sarma, said, “This year we have registered 18 dengue positive cases at GMCH. Out of which, two patients had succumbed to dengue. One died on November 7 and another on November 10. Both the patients also had comorbid conditions and were suffering from liver cirrhosis. Also, six patients have been released after they fully recovered.”
Meanwhile, a statement by the GMCH confirmed that two patients are currently battling for their lives at the hospital. Five patients have been reported stable, whereas, three patients were reported to be improving.
