Gumla to host badminton tourney on Statehood Day
Gumla: The Gumla administration has announced to host a three-day badminton tournament at the indoor stadium here from Sunday for people from different walks of life.
Administrative officials here said the tournament, which is being hosted in sync with the Statehood Day celebrations, aims to promote badminton in the district. Along with Khunti and Simdega, the tribal dominated Gumla district is home to several hockey and football players who have been performing at the national and international level.
Gumla DDC Hemant Sati said the tournament will be held across singles (men and women), doubles and mixed doubles formats. Players aged from 14 to 65 years can participate in the meet. They will be classified according to their age groups.
“The final will be played on November 15. Over 100 players have registered already for the event,” Sati said. Sporting gears will be provided to the participants by the district administration, deputy commissioner Sushant Gaurav said.
