Five held for shooting at Ranchi businessman
Jamshedpur: East Singhbhum district police arrested five men who had shot at a land dealer in Dhalbhumgarh police station area on September 26, this year. The incident took place at Modasoli diversion on NH-18, when the Ranchi-based land broker, Shekhar Mahato, was on his way to Dhalbhumgarh in his car.
His aide, Debashish Mukherjee, and driver, Ganga Prasad, were also injured in the shooting. They all have recovered.
A case pertaining to the firing was lodged at Dhalbhumgarh police station by the victims on the same day.
SSP, Prabhat Kumar, said that the assailants were hired by Sadam Hussein (31), a resident of Sadar thana police station area in Ranchi, to kill Shekhar.
"Sadam had a land dispute with Shekhar because of which he wanted to kill him. He hired the criminals on contract," the SSP said.
The arrested accused are Aditya Singh alias Bitu Singh (38), Prakash Chaudhary (35), Monu Tiwari (21), Hemant Kumar Pandey (19) and Sadam.
Except Sadam, who is a resident of Badgai in Sadar police station area, the other four are residents of Sukhdeonagar police station area in Ranchi.
The police have recovered a 9mm automatic pistol, magazine and two live bullets, besides a country-made gun among other items from the gang. The arrests were made on a tip off on Wednesday, and, they have been forwarded to jail on Thursday, said police. “The gang members have confessed to their crime,” the SSP said.
“Aditya is a hardcore criminal, who is facing over a dozen cases in Ranchi, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Chaibasa. More arrests are likely to be done in this case. Investigation is on,” the SSP added.
