Police nab two Maha men for 3 house-breakings in Ponda
Ponda: In a swift action, Ponda police nabbed two men from Maharashtra from a Panaji hotel late Wednesday in connection with three housebreaks in Ponda town and its outskirts. All three thefts occurred in a single day, on Tuesday, between 7.30am and 6.30pm. The accused have been remanded to four days police custody.
The police also recovered stolen gold and silver articles all approximately worth Rs 10 lakh and Rs 6,000 cash from the possession of both accused. While one accused, Dayaynand Ravi Shetty, 37, was working as a spot boy in Bollywood, Sanjay Hanumant Jamadar, 40, sells vada pav in Mumbai. Shetty is a resident of Sion Mumbai and Jamadar is a native of Umarga-Usmanabad in Maharashtra.
Under the guidance of Ponda DySP C L Patil, a police team headed by PI Vijaykumar Chodankar, and comprising PSI Paresh Sinari, head constable Kedarnath Jalmi, constables Amay Gosavi, Aditya Naik, Mayur Jambotkar, Omkar Sawant raided the Panaji hotel where the accused were hiding and nabbed the duo.
They broke into the flat of Vithal Prabhu in Antruz Nagar Housing Board Colony at Pondaand stole gold ornaments worth around Rs 4 lakh and Rs 1,50,000 cash.
From the flat of Pundalik Gawade they stole Rs 1,500 and from the flat owned by Viraj Patil in the same building they stole gold and silver ornaments worth around Rs 5 lakh and Rs 5,000.
