HYDERABAD: Former minister Mohammed Ali Shabbir has condemned the TRS government for not celebrating the birth anniversary of Moulana Abul Kalam Azad, a freedom fighter and the first Union education minister of India.
It was the 134th birth anniversary of Moulana Azad. His birth anniversary is celebrated as National Education Day. Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao did not even issue a press release to pay homage to Moulana Azad, alleged Shabbir Ali.
The previous Congress governments in the undivided state used to celebrate the occasion on a grand scale to spread the ideology and teachings of Moulana Azad. The Congress-led UPA government, on September 11, 2008, decided to mark the birth anniversary of Moulana Azad by celebrating it as the National Education Day on November 11, every year.
Since then, the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development has been celebrating the National Education Day to highlight the contribution of Moulana Azad in the education sector. At the state level, the Congress government used to organize minority welfare day.
Shabbir said the TRS government did not include the photo of Moulana Azad in the official advertisements when it celebrated 75 years of independence this year. On the occasion of National Education Day today, Shabbir Ali advised CM KCR to do an introspection on how the education sector has gone from bad to worse in the last eight years.
