Jharkhand: Show-cause notice to BSL officer after worker’s death
BOKARO: The inspector of factories department under the state government on Thursday issued a show cause notice to the executive director (works) of Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) for the accidental death of a contractual worker at the plant on October 8.
Sources said the department received information about the death of Satish Mahto (56) from media reports on Wednesday.
Following this, factory inspector Dhirendra Singh Munda inspected the spot and interacted with the workers.
The show cause stated, “During the course of inspection of the accident site, the evidence found, and questioning the workers present, it was found that on 08.11.2022, the accident happened at the work site, but the management deliberately tried to hide the accident and did not inform us about it till now. By not providing it, Section 88 of the Factories Act, 1948, under Rule 96 of the Jharkhand Factory Rules, 1950 has been violated.”
“The construction of power supply arrangement for proposed 2,000 tpd (132/11kv.GIS) sub-station is being done by expanding the factory. But the approval of the extended part has not been done as per the requirement, which is in accordance with Rule 3 of Jharkhand Factory Rules, 1950,” it read.
BSL’s chief of communication Manikant Dhan said, “A three-member internal inquiry committee, formed by the management, conducted a probe into the incident. It consisted of senior officers of safety, personal, and project.”
“The committee submitted its report to the management on Thursday night. Based on the report, the BSL issued the ‘Assurance Letter of Offer of Employment’ to the next of the kin of the deceased,” Dhan added.
