Congress promises to restore name of Narendra Modi stadium at Motera as Sardar Patel stadium
The opposition Congress on Saturday said it would restore the name of the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera area of Ahmedabad as Sardar Patel Stadium if voted to power in upcoming Gujarat elections. In its poll manifesto, the Congress also said it would revoke the remission granted by the state government to 11 convicts in the 2002 Bilkis Bano case allowing their premature release from jail.
Gujarat ATS, GST unit conduct raids at 150 locations ahead of state Assembly elections
The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of Gujarat on Friday conducted raids at as many as 150 locations in different parts of the state, sources informed. As per information, the raids were conducted in a joint operation with Gujarat GST at locations in districts like Surat, Ahmedabad, Jamnagar, Bharuch, and Bhavnagar over tax evasion and money trail on international routes.
The Gujarat High Court had in 2018 upheld the conviction of Manoj Kukrani and 15 others in the Naroda Patiya riots case. Kukrani, who was sentenced to life imprisonment, is currently out on bail.
Talking about the BJP's move to field her, Payal Kukrani said, "I am grateful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, state BJP president C R Paatil, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and all party workers and members. Gujarat polls: Daughter of Naroda Patiya riots case convict gets BJP ticket
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded the daughter of a 2002 post-Godhra Naroda Patiya massacre case convict from Naroda seat of Ahmedabad for the upcoming Assembly elections. Payal Kukrani (30), the daughter of Manoj Kukrani who is one of the 16 convicts in the Naroda Patiya riots case in which 97 Muslims were killed, is also among the youngest candidates fielded by the ruling party this time. She is an anaesthetist.
Elections for the 182-member Gujarat Legislative Assembly will be held in two phases - on December 1 and 5, and the counting of votes will be taken up on December 8.
In the manifesto, the Congress also promised implementation of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) for government service holders and removal of contract and outsourcing systems for government employees.
"The Congress had sought opinion of hundreds of people in the state to prepare the manifesto," Gehlot said.
The manifesto was released by Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, who is party's senior observer for Gujarat polls.

Ten lakh jobs in government and semi-government departments, free medical treatment of up to Rs 10 lakh, LPG cylinder at Rs 500 and 300 units of free electricity every month are some of the key promises that the Congress made in its manifesto for the Gujarat elections.
BJP has been in power in the state for the last 27 years and is considered as BJP bastion.
The elections will be held in two phases on December 1 and 5. The counting of votes will take place on December 8, which coincides with Himachal Pradesh's result date.
Hitting out at the ruling party in the state over the Morbi bridge accident that occurred recently, Rajasthan CM Gehlot said that the governance in the state was "zero".
At least 135 people were killed and over 100 injured after a cable suspension bridge in Morbi town collapsed on October 30, plunging people into the Machchhu river. "Understand the Morbi incident seriously. What problem does the government have in constituting a Commission under a sitting or retd judge of the High Court? If people are punished, people will be wary in the future. That is governance - it is zero here," he said.
He further said that the party has prepared this manifesto as per the people's choice rather than the committee that used to be formed for the work.
"As Rahul Gandhi told us that people should be asked what should be there in the manifesto, they have been asked and over six lakhs people have come forward for this," Gehlot said.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said that this manifesto would be the government's document in the very first cabinet if the party gets elected in the state assembly election.
"This manifesto will become the government's document in the first cabinet if our government is formed," Gehlot said.

The Congress party on Saturday released the election manifesto for the Gujarat Assembly elections with 11 commitments which include waiving the farmers' loan up to Rs 3 lakh and implementing the Old Pension Scheme in the state.
Gujarat assembly elections: Overall, the BJP has so far named candidates for 166 assembly segments as it had issued the first list of 160 candidates on November 9.

Poll body prohibits exit, opinion polls: A spokesman for the Election Department said that as per the notification, the display of any election matter, including the results of an opinion poll or any other poll survey in electronic media, would be prohibited during 48 hours ending with the hours fixed for the conclusion of polling in connection with the general elections in Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat under Section 126(1) (b) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
