MANGALURU: The third additional district sessions court sentenced an executive engineer of the PWD to three years and six months of simple imprisonment, and slapped a fine of Rs 25 lakh in a disproportionate assets (DA) case, here on Thursday.
The convict is N Narasimharaju, a resident of Maddaiah Road, Devanahalli Town, Bengaluru Rural district. A case was registered against him with the Lokayukta on March 24, 2010, alleging that had amassed wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income. The final verdict was pronounced on Thursday, by Judge BB Jakati. The court also stated that if the convict fails to pay the fine amount, then he has to serve six more months in prison.
PSI Sadanand M Varnekar was the complainant, while PSI Vittaldas Pai investigated the case, and filed the chargesheet in court. Special public prosecutor Raveendra Mannipadi argued on behalf of the state. The convict was also caught while allegedly receiving a bribe on September 8, 2009, which is a case that is still under trial. Soon after the court pronounced the verdict, Narasimharaju was taken into judicial custody, said the Lokayukta police.
