PRAYAGRAJ: Panic gripped Chuppepur and adjoining villages for hours under the limits of Karchana police station on Wednesday after some unidentified miscreants damaged the fiber made statue of Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar and dumped it in a rice field.
Upon being alerted, senior police officials along with forces rushed the spot and carried out detailed investigation. The police have registered an FIR under section 295 of IPC (deliberate and malicious act, intended to outrage religious feeling of any class by insulting its religion or beliefs) and constituted a team to ensure the arrest of miscreants involved in the act.
SP (Trans Yamuna) Saurabh Dixit told TOI: “ After registering the FIR under appropriate sections, police teams have been looking for miscreants involved in the act”. He added that stern action would be initiated in this regard. He, however, said Zilapanchayat authorities have ordered a new statue from Chunar to be installed at the same place.
The statue, as per the locals, was installed at village in April this year. When locals spotted the damaged statue of Baba Saheb on Wednesday morning, they demanded action against the miscreants.
