Pakhowal Road ROB-RUB project: Wait to get longer

Ludhiana: The ongoing construction work of railway over bridge(ROB)-railway under bridge (RUB) project at Pakhowal Road railway crossing will test the patience of commuters for another year as the project will not see the light of the day before next Diwali. The officials revealed this information on Wednesday in a meeting chaired by Congress MP Ravneet Bittu at zone D office in Sarabha Nagar. Also, the idea to extend length of ROB at Pakhowal Road has also been dropped as it was increasing its cost up to Rs 9 crore and technically it was not feasible.
The work near Hero Bakery Chowk at Pakhowal Road is hanging fire because officials wasted a lot of time in deciding whether to change the design or not. The officials claimed that work was going on at the spot and one side sewer line is already shifted while the other side work would take one month . They claimed to complete this project early and this next year deadline is kept as maximum delay. The railway under bridge will open in two months, but railway over bridge will take time.
Congress MP Ravneet Bittu, after the meeting, claimed that they had been taking regular update about this project, but it was still getting delayed as one major sewer line was to be replaced and some time was spent in discussion over change in design. He added that he would take the officials along to the site for final decision over its deadline. He claimed that they would get this project completed as soon as possible because this stretch was very crucial and if the work got delayed further, the commuters would face a tough time. Notably, the construction of an ROB and two RUB on Pakhowal Road has been a long-pending demand of the city residents. This joint project is around Rs 124 crore and is destined to provide much-needed respite from traffic congestion to the residents. The project has skipped deadlines in the past as well and even now it will be seen whether it gets completed and in how much time.
