Supreme Court refers to poachgate case, says the corrupt destroying India

NEW DELHI: The row surrounding a video footage purportedly showing crores of rupees being allegedly offered to Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) MLAs to switch over to BJP was referred to by the Supreme Court on Wednesday to underline that such people were destroying the country and no action was being taken against them.
When additional solicitor general S V Raju contended that people like social activist Gautam Navlaka were destroying the country, a bench of Justices K M Joseph and Hrishikesh Roy said, “Do you want to know who is destroying the country?”
“People, who are corrupt, are destroying the country. Every public office, you see what is going on there. Who is taking action against them? We saw videos of crores of rupees being offered to buy elected representatives. Are you saying that they are good and not against the country,” the bench asked.
The ASG, however, said there was no question of defending such people.
“You would not defend them but they will go on and continue with their activities,” the bench said, indicating that strict action is not being taken by the authorities concerned to root out the malaise of corruption.
In the TRS MLAs poaching case, based on a complaint by Pilot Rohith Reddy, cases under relevant sections — criminal conspiracy, offering bribe and provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 — were filed against Ramachandra Bharati alias Satish Sharma, Nanda Kumar and Simhayaji Swamy on the night of October 26. The three accused have been remanded in judicial custody.
