Noida: Traffic Park located in the campus of Noida police commissionerate in Sector 108 was inaugurated on Wednesday. Traffic police aim to use the facility for training purposes.
The park, constructed at a cost of Rs 80 crore, has a track for practical driving test, a railway track for toy train, administrative complex, auditorium, cafeteria, solar blinkers, traffic signals, auto number plate reader and life-sized models of pedestrian crossing, roundabouts, FOBs, and underpasses.
The construction work had started in 2015 and the project was completed in 2018. Initially the park was aimed for the transport department, which is presently functioning from a small space in Sector 32. However, the UP government in January 2020 introduced the commissionerate system in Noida and the premise was given to the police department. The traffic park was not in use for the last few years due to Covid restrictions. On Wednesday, Police Commissioner Alok Singh flagged off a toy train at the park.
Speaking about the traffic awareness drive being carried out in the city this month, Singh said that it is the responsibility of people to follow traffic rules as this will decrease road accidents. “Such awareness programmes should be held throughout the year and not only in November,” he said. The awareness drive focuses on five Es – education, enforcement, engineering, emergency care and environment. The traffic police are also coordinating with different schools to sensitize the students about traffic rules and also make them traffic volunteers.
A group of students from a private school and some NCC cadets participated in the programme. The students visited different stalls and got to know about various traffic equipment like speed radar, body-borne cameras, decibels, point-of-sale (POS) machines for challans, etc.
Ganesh Saha, deputy commissioner of police (traffic), said in the month-long programme the traffic department has planned to make 1 lakh students traffic volunteers. “These volunteers will be sensitised about traffic rules and road safety. They will then make their family members and neighbours aware about the same,” he said.
