CHENNAI: A holiday was declared for schools and colleges in Tiruvallur district on Friday as the India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rain there.
The IMD on Thursday issued a red alert for Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Ranipet districts of Tamil Nadu on November 11 and for Dindigul, Theni and the Nilgiris on November 12 as a low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is likely to become more marked during the next 24 hours. Red alert means warning (take action). The agency has forecast isolated heavy to very heavy rain with extremely heavy rain in one or two places for these districts.
Chennai city and suburbs are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning over some areas in the next 48 hours. The IMD has issued an orange alert for the city. Orange alert means be prepared.
